  • Medication schedule and reminders
  • Compression garment help and safe mobility

Recovery Education

Know what to expect.

Always follow your surgeon's instructions; this is general education, not medical advice.

Before Surgery

  • Stop nicotine (smoking, vaping, patches) as long before surgery as your surgeon directs; it slows healing.
  • Ask your surgeon which medications and supplements to pause. Some, like aspirin, fish oil and vitamin E, can increase bleeding.
  • Fill prescriptions in advance.
  • Arrange a ride home and a responsible adult or nurse for at least the first 24 hours.
  • Prepare your space: pillows, wedge or BBL pillow if prescribed, loose clothing, water, easy snacks, stool softener if recommended.

The First 72 Hours

  • Rest, but take short walks every 1–2 hours while awake to help prevent blood clots.
  • Sip fluids often.
  • Take pain medicine on schedule as prescribed, and with food if directed.
  • Expect swelling, bruising and tiredness.
  • Avoid driving while taking narcotic pain medicine.

Drains

  • Keep them secured; empty and record output as instructed (often 2–3 times a day).
  • Keep the site clean and dry.
  • Call your surgeon if output suddenly increases, turns bright red, or the drain falls out.

Compression Garments

  • Wear as directed, usually around the clock in early weeks, removing only to shower.
  • Watch for tight spots, numbness or skin breakdown.
  • Proper fit reduces swelling and supports results.

BBL & Body Contouring Tips

  • Avoid sitting directly on your buttocks for as long as your surgeon instructs; use a BBL pillow when needed.
  • Sleep on your stomach or side.
  • Start lymphatic massage only when your surgeon approves it.

Showering & Incision Care

  • Shower only when your surgeon clears you.
  • Pat incisions dry; no soaking in baths, pools or hot tubs until cleared.
  • Keep incisions out of the sun.

When to Call Your Surgeon

  • Fever over 101°F
  • Spreading redness, warmth or pus
  • One side suddenly swelling much more than the other
  • Bleeding that soaks through dressings
  • Pain not controlled by medication
  • Nausea or vomiting that won't stop

Call 911 Right Away

Emergency

  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath or trouble breathing
  • Coughing up blood
  • Calf pain or swelling in one leg with breathing changes
  • Fainting, confusion, or seizure
